PRIVATE REEL UPLOAD WORKFLOW
How to Transcribe a Private Instagram Reel You Own
Do not submit the private Instagram link: the link route can read only publicly accessible Reels. If you own the Reel and have the right to process its media, open the Instagram Reels transcript tool, choose your saved audio or video file under Upload audio or video, and select Transcribe uploaded file. Review the result against your source before you copy or download it.
- 1
Confirm ownership, consent, and the source file you may use.
- 2
Upload one saved audio or video file instead of the private link.
- 3
Review names, numbers, and private details before sharing the text.
CHECKED IN THE CURRENT SITE
The upload route does not need the private Reel URL
Checked September 28, 2026. The current tool interface, front-end file checks, and transcription worker were inspected for this guide.
- Private URL
- Not an upload input
- Accepted input category
- Audio or video file
- Items per request
- One file
- Visible result source
- Uploaded file
The browser checks the selected file type and sends the file to the site's file-transcription endpoint. The worker reads the uploaded media bytes and returns transcript text. This route is separate from the public Instagram-link route.
RIGHTS-SAFE DECISION TABLE
Choose a source you are allowed to process
| Your situation | Use this input | Stop or continue? |
|---|---|---|
| You created the Reel and still have the original media file. | Your original audio or video file | Continue if everyone whose private information or voice appears has been handled under your consent and publishing rules. |
| You created the Reel and can lawfully save a copy from your own account. | The saved copy from your account | Continue after confirming it is the intended Reel and not an edited draft or unrelated export. |
| A collaborator supplied the media and authorized transcription. | The file they gave you for this job | Continue within the permission they granted; do not widen the audience or reuse the text for another purpose without approval. |
| You can view a private Reel but do not own it or have permission. | None | Stop. Access to view a private post is not permission to copy, upload, transcribe, or republish it. |
| You have only a private Instagram URL. | None until you have a permitted file | Do not try to bypass the privacy setting. Ask the owner for the media and explicit permission. |
| The media includes confidential, personal, or client material. | Only a source approved for the intended processing | Pause and apply the relevant privacy, contract, workplace, or client rules before uploading. |
STEP BY STEP
Use the saved-file route
1. Identify the permitted source file
Prefer the original file you used to create the Reel. If you use a saved copy from your own account, play its beginning and ending so you can confirm that the file is complete and belongs to the private Reel you intend to transcribe.
2. Check the file before upload
The current interface accepts one file whose media type is audio or video. It applies the same documented ceiling shown on the tool page: up to 10 minutes and 100 MB. If the browser cannot read a duration, the server still enforces its request and file checks.
3. Select the file in the upload card
Open the tool, find Upload audio or video, choose the permitted file, and check that the filename shown below the drop area is the one you intended. Then select Transcribe uploaded file and keep the page open while the request runs.
4. Verify the returned text before reuse
Confirm that the result identifies its source as Uploaded file. Replay the media to verify names, figures, quotations, and any section where speakers overlap or background sound makes speech unclear.
ORIGINAL FILE PREFLIGHT
Check the media before it leaves your device
- You own the Reel or have explicit permission to transcribe this file.
- The selected file contains the intended Reel from its first needed word to its final needed word.
- The file is audio or video, not a screenshot, document, archive, or link shortcut.
- The tool page shows the selected filename you expected before you submit.
- You have removed unrelated private material from the file when it is not needed for the transcript.
- You know where the finished text may be stored, shared, or published after review.
UPLOAD DIAGNOSTIC
When the private Reel file does not produce usable text
| What you see | What it establishes | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| The filename still says “No file selected.” | The upload card has no current file. | Choose the file again and confirm its name appears before submitting. |
| “Choose an audio or video file.” | The selected item did not present an accepted audio or video media type. | Return to your permitted source and choose the actual media file rather than a thumbnail, document, or shortcut. |
| The page reports that the file is larger than 100 MB. | The current file exceeds the site's verified size ceiling. | Use an allowed smaller source or prepare a shorter copy only if your rights and workflow permit editing it. |
| The page reports that the media is longer than 10 minutes. | The readable duration exceeds the site's verified duration ceiling. | Use the relevant segment only when you are allowed to create and process that segment. |
| The result says “Uploaded file” but the words are from another Reel. | The upload completed for a different selected file. | Discard that result, reselect the intended source, and verify both filename and opening audio. |
| The transcript omits a silent title card or sticker. | The missing words may exist only in the picture, not in spoken audio. | Use the audio-versus-visual text workflow and keep verified visual notes separate. |
| The text contains a private name or detail you should not distribute. | The transcript needs a privacy review before handoff. | Redact or restrict the text according to the permission and privacy rules that apply to your project. |
BEFORE YOU SHARE THE TEXT
A private-media handoff check
- The transcript came from the intended uploaded file, not a previous result.
- Names, numbers, quotations, and unclear passages were checked against the source.
- Private details that are not needed for the approved purpose were removed or protected.
- The person receiving the text is within the audience covered by your permission.
- The output format matches the job: copy or TXT for editable text, and VTT only when timed data is available.
PRIVATE REEL ANSWERS
Transcribing a private Reel you own
Can I paste a private Instagram Reel link?
No. The site's link route is for publicly accessible Reels. Use a permitted audio or video file that you own or are authorized to process.
Does following a private account give me permission to transcribe its Reels?
No. Viewing access does not by itself grant permission to upload, transcribe, republish, or reuse someone else's private content.
Which file should I upload for my own Reel?
Use the original audio or video file when you still have it. Otherwise, use a copy you are lawfully able to save from your own account and verify that it contains the complete intended audio.
What happens to the original uploaded media?
The current tool states that the original media is released after the request is processed. Review the site's privacy policy before submitting sensitive material.
