MARKDOWN HANDOFF

How to Save an Instagram Reel Transcript as Markdown

Generate the Reel transcript, correct the wording against the audio, and preserve a plain-text source. Create a file with an .md extension, add a short source block, structure the transcript with headings and speaker labels, then reopen the file in a text editor to verify that the source and spoken words stayed intact.

  1. 1

Verify the transcript and keep an unchanged TXT source.

  2. 2

Move the approved text into the Markdown structure below.

  3. 3

Save as plain text with an .md extension and audit the file.

CURRENT TOOL BOUNDARY

Start with copied text or the TXT download

The current Instagram Reels transcript tool exposes Copy text, Download .txt, and Download .vtt when timing data is available. It does not provide a direct Markdown download.

Copy the corrected result into a plain-text editor or open the TXT file there. Markdown is still plain text, so the important work is assigning clear structure without silently rewriting the transcript.

STEP BY STEP

Build the Markdown file from verified speech

1. Correct the transcript before structuring it

Replay the Reel and verify names, negations, quoted wording, and unclear phrases. Use the transcript accuracy workflow before moving text into a new format. Markdown should organize accepted wording, not make an uncertain transcript look finished.

2. Preserve the plain-text source

Download TXT or save a separate text copy before adding Markdown marks. Leave that source unchanged during formatting. If a later edit changes the meaning, the plain-text copy gives you a clean comparison point.

3. Add a compact source block

Record the individual Reel URL, your local access date, the review state, and the intended use. Use a descriptive working title rather than inventing a source title. Include only the profile or account information the handoff genuinely needs.

4. Assign one heading level to each role

Use the top heading for the document name, the next level for Transcript and Notes, and smaller headings only for genuine subdivisions. Do not turn every spoken sentence into a heading. The outline should describe the file, not compete with the speech.

5. Keep speaker labels and notes distinct

Place a consistent speaker label before each change of voice. Use neutral labels when identities are not confirmed. Put observations, corrections, and reuse ideas in a Notes section so no reader mistakes editorial text for words spoken in the Reel.

6. Choose a timing policy

Add reviewed time markers only when a reader must return to a passage. Keep full cue timing in the VTT source instead of copying every cue into a reading file. The timestamp workflow explains how to review timed output.

7. Save as plain text with an .md extension

Use the editor's plain-text save command and give the file a short descriptive name ending in .md. Keep the file encoded as standard text. Do not export a styled web page or rich-text document and merely rename its extension.

8. Reopen and inspect the saved file

Close the editor, reopen the .md file, search for a distinctive phrase, and follow the saved source URL. Check the raw text as well as any rendered preview. A preview can look polished while a broken heading or altered source line remains hidden.

ORIGINAL MARKDOWN SKELETON

Use a source-first plain-text structure

The fictional lines below were written for this guide. They are not taken from an Instagram Reel or a transcription run.

# Transcript review copy

Source URL: Add the individual Reel address before release
Access date: Add the local review date before release
Review state: Corrected against the audio
Purpose: Research handoff

## Transcript

**Speaker A**

Keep the verified transcript separate from every later rewrite.

**Speaker B**

Use the source copy to resolve any disputed wording.

## Notes

- Speaker change confirmed during listening review.
- One specialist term still needs source-owner confirmation.

## Deliverables

- Add only material that completed its own review.

Replace every instruction line with a real project value or remove it before sharing. Preserve the separation between source information, transcript text, notes, and later deliverables.

The file opens as a rich document. The editor saved formatting instead of plain text.Return to the verified text and save a plain-text .md file.
The whole transcript appears as a heading.Heading marks were placed before spoken paragraphs.Keep heading marks on section names only.

BEFORE YOU SHARE

Complete the Markdown handoff check

  • The wording was checked against the Reel before formatting began.
  • An unchanged plain-text source still exists.
  • The source block points to the individual Reel and states the review condition.
  • Headings describe sections rather than spoken sentences.
  • Speaker labels are consistent and do not guess identities.
  • Transcript text, visual observations, editorial notes, and rewrites remain distinct.
  • Every retained time marker still matches its passage.
  • The .md file reopens as searchable plain text.
  • The raw file and rendered preview communicate the same structure.
  • You have permission to process and share the transcript.

CLEAR ANSWERS

Instagram Reel transcript Markdown FAQ

Can ReelTranscripts download Markdown directly?

No. The current tool returns copy-ready text, TXT, and WebVTT when timing is available. Save the corrected text as a plain-text file with an .md extension and add only the structure your handoff needs.

Should I convert TXT or VTT to Markdown?

Start with TXT when the goal is a readable transcript. Start with VTT only when reviewed timing must remain available, and keep the original VTT beside the Markdown file.

Should every speaker have a heading?

No. Repeated speaker turns are usually clearer as consistent bold labels. Reserve headings for durable document sections or long, intentional subdivisions.

Can I put a summary in the same Markdown file?

Yes, but place it in a separate section and label it as a summary. Keep the verified transcript unchanged so the summary can be checked against its source.

When is Markdown the wrong output?

Use VTT or SRT for timed subtitle work, PDF for a fixed reading copy, or an editable document when the recipient needs comments and revision tracking.
