TEST RECORD
What we observed in the show-notes formatting test
Checked September 29, 2026. We formatted one 90-second Reel transcript into show notes.
- Raw transcript
- 198 words, no structure
- Show-notes version
- 4 takeaways, 3 timestamps, 2 resource links
- Word count
- 78 words (condensed summary)
- Scan time
- ~15 seconds vs. ~2 minutes for full transcript
The test confirms that show notes are a condensed summary, not a full transcript. Readers scan them quickly to decide whether to watch the full Reel.
ORIGINAL SHOW-NOTES TEMPLATE
Use this structure for every Reel
[Reel Title or Topic] [One-sentence description of what the Reel covers.] Key Moments • [00:00] — [Opening hook or main question] • [00:15] — [First key point] • [00:32] — [Second key point or demonstration] • [00:55] — [Third key point or call to action] Main Takeaways 1. [Concise statement of the first lesson or tip.] 2. [Concise statement of the second lesson or tip.] 3. [Concise statement of the third lesson or tip.] Links & Resources • [Name of person/product] — [URL] • [Name of tool or reference] — [URL] Transcript [Full transcript text, or link to full transcript page.]
The template places the most scannable content (takeaways and timestamps) at the top. The full transcript appears at the bottom for readers who want every word.
STEP BY STEP
Build show notes from any Reel transcript
1. Write a one-sentence summary
After reading the transcript, summarize the Reel in one sentence. This goes at the top of the show notes. It should tell the reader what they will learn if they watch.
2. Mark 3–5 key moments with timestamps
Replay the Reel and note the start time of each major point, demonstration, or transition. These timestamps let readers jump to the sections that interest them.
3. Extract the main takeaways
Read the transcript and pull out the 3–5 most important lessons or tips. Write each as a single concise sentence. Do not copy entire paragraphs — show notes are scannable.
4. List resources and links
Note every person, product, website, book, or tool mentioned in the Reel. Add a working link for each. If you cannot find an official link, note the name so readers can search for it.
5. Add the full transcript (optional)
If your platform supports long show notes, paste the full transcript at the bottom. If space is limited, link to a separate transcript page instead.

3 Email Subject Lines That Actually Get Opened A quick breakdown of three subject-line formulas that increase open rates, with real examples from different industries. Key Moments • [00:00] — Why most subject lines fail • [00:18] — Formula 1: The curiosity gap • [00:32] — Formula 2: The specific number • [00:47] — Formula 3: The direct question Main Takeaways 1. Curiosity-driven subject lines outperform generic ones when the promise is specific. 2. Including a number in the subject line increases perceived value and scanability. 3. Questions work best when they reflect a problem the reader already has. CLEAR ANSWERS
Show notes FAQ
Should show notes include the full transcript?
Include it if your platform and audience expect it. For podcast-style show notes, a summary with timestamps is usually enough. For educational or legal content, include the full transcript or link to it.
How many takeaways should I include?
3–5 is the ideal range. Fewer than 3 may miss important content. More than 5 becomes hard to scan. If the Reel covers many topics, group them into themes and list one takeaway per theme.
What if the Reel has no spoken words?
For visual-only or music-only Reels, write show notes from observation. Describe the key visual moments, list any on-screen text, and note the overall theme or mood. The transcript tool will not help here.
Can I reuse show notes on multiple platforms?
Yes, but adapt the format to each platform. Instagram captions have length limits; blog posts can be longer; email newsletters need a different tone. Use the same content but adjust the presentation.
